Description:

2026 Taiwan Hearing Protection Trilogy

Overview
In alignment with the WHO World Hearing Day theme “From Communities to Classrooms: Protecting Children’s Hearing,” 3M TAIWAN LIMITED Occupational Health team launched a month-long campaign: “The Hearing Protection Trilogy.” This initiative successfully translated global advocacy into tangible workplace actions, bridging the gap between family wellness and professional safety to support our “Journey to Zero” vision.

Phase 1: Safety Starts at Home (Community Outreach)
The campaign began during the Lunar New Year by extending health protection to our employees’ families. We launched the “Parent’s Guide to Hearing Protection,” specifically designed for high-decibel festive environments. By empowering our “workplace parents” to safeguard their children’s “little ears” at home, we embedded a “Safety DNA” that naturally manifests as heightened risk awareness and self-discipline within our corporate sites.

Phase 2: Knowledge as the Ultimate Armor (Empowerment)
To eliminate information gaps, we hosted the “Hearing Knowledge Challenge.” This interactive, gamified challenge exceeded all engagement goals, with over 80 colleagues participating (a 160% achievement rate). To reinforce the learning, participants received a creative “Hearing Care Bundle” featuring professional 3M earplugs and Taiwan symbolic “Ear Cookies.” This blend of education and fun successfully transformed technical standards into actionable safety competence for our workforce.

Phase 3: Environmental Optimization & The Quiet Hour (Classroom Focus)
To replicate a “serene classroom” environment in the workplace, we implemented the “Quiet Hour” on World Hearing Day (March 3rd). From 14:00 to 15:00, employees silenced devices and practiced low-decibel communication. Our Occupational Health Nurses (OHN) conducted real-time “Noise Mapping” during this period, ensuring office environments remained below 50dB. This allowed employees to experience the direct benefits of reduced auditory fatigue and enhanced “Deep Work” focus, proving that controlling noise at the source is the best preventive measure.

Impact and Sustainability
The “Hearing Protection Trilogy” reached approximately 800 employees across 5 corporate sites in Taiwan. To ensure lasting impact, we continue to broadcast hearing protection videos and distribute educational handbooks. By protecting the sounds we love—from our homes to our desks—we have established a robust first line of defense against hearing loss.

Impactful Story:

Through Hearing Protection Trilogy, over 800 employees identified workplace risks via noise mapping, leading to proactive hearing protection. The “Parent’s Guide” triggered significant behavior change, extending vital safety awareness to children’s hearing at home. Participants mastered correct ear care and hygiene, effectively avoiding harmful cleaning habits. Furthermore, specialized training empowered our OHNs to provide early identification and professional management of auditory fatigue. This comprehensive approach ensured both professional and personal auditory health for all staff, fostering a sustainable culture of prevention and long-term hearing wellness.
