Project title: Free hearing test for elderly

Regions: Germany

Outline of the event:

The number of people suffering from hearing loss is expected to rise up to 700 million people worldwide by 2050. Due to the demographic shift elderly people with hearing loss will increase. The consequences such as social isolation, loss of quality of life but also psychiatric diseases or cognitive decline are well known and the WHO has described hearing loss to be one modifiable risk factor in mid-life for dementia development.
Therefore the department of Otorhinolaryngology at the St. Elisabeth Hospital Bochum, Ruhr-University Bochum, offers free hearing examinations and councelling for hearing devices at the department of Geriatric Medicine, Marienhospital Herne and at the department of Geriatric Medicine, Marien-Hospital Wattenscheid, both belonging to the Ruhr-University Bochum in cooperation with the hearing implant company Med-EL and with Kampmann acoustics on the WHO World Hearing Day 2023 in order to sensitize for hearing loss in the elderly.
