Women Rise for Change (WRC)- Rwanda, in collaboration with Kirehe and Kigina Health Centers conducted health education sessions on March 3, 2024, utilizing WHO resources for hearing life.
Targeting outpatient department patients and healthcare staff especially nurses and midwives the sessions stressed early detection, prevention, and intervention of hearing loss in both children and adults. On March 4, 2024, women attending immunization services received education on detecting childhood hearing impairment early.
Attendees valued the knowledge and skills acquired, focusing on recognizing signs of hearing loss, regular check-ups, proper ear hygiene and dispelling misconceptions. The initiative aimed to raise awareness, promote timely ear health services utilization, conduct early home screenings, combat societal stigmas, and foster proactive community involvement in ear health practices through encouraging collaboration with community health workers for early hearing loss and ear diseases management.
