Our institution (National Institute of Hearing & Speech – Iceland), in cooperation with the Directorate of Health, Children´s Ombudsman and the Administration of Occupational Safety&Health, held a joint symposium on hearing care on the occasion of World Hearing Day 2024.
The symposium was chaired by the Mayor of Reykjavik city (capital) and attracted a lot of media attention. The focus was on hearing environment of children, hearing screening of children, chaning mindsets in hearing care,and how to make listening safe for children and young adults.
Our activities generated much media attention, 4 radio interviews, 2 TV interviews, 4 print media articles, much social media shares.
Our institution also launched the first Audiology university education in Iceland the day before the symposium which helped attract attention to WHD and the event. Minister of Health attended the launch and helped promote WHD.
