We have organised hearing screening camp for new born baby on World Hearing Day. Information about the camp was spread in the city through banners, pamphlets, radio channel and through post in social media platform. Good number of parents with their new-born babies reached us for OAE Screening (Otoacoustic Emission), we screened them and provided them the report immediately. We also explained them the importance of new-born hearing screening and how to identify symptoms of hearing impairment in new born baby thus we spread awareness too. Early hearing screening can reduce the rate of hearing loss in children as early detection accelerates early rehabilitation. Thus hearing loss cases are left untreated in childrens not because they are not treated, it is because large number of parents along with people’s in the society unaware that if the child is screened timely, rehabilitated soon after diagnosis and treatment large number of children who gets deprived of hearing and speech could be able of hearing and speech, the only requirement is awareness and timely screening followed by timely diagnosis and proper rehabilitation. We can reduce the cases of hearing loss in childrens with our joint efforts with maternity hospital, aware parents and people’s.
Our camp got good response and we are happy to share that now parents are approaching us for OAE of their babies if they miss the hearing screening at hospital.
