Title: Hearing care for all
Description: Our symposium was open for all, free of charge and both written and Swedish sign language interpretation were provided. In addition to gathering around 70 participants some of the speakers were interviewed on local radio.The work done at the primary care level by hearing instructors in municipalities and persons with competence on hearing and hearing aids at nursing homes was discussed. Even if Sweden has an established infrastructure within hearing health care, there are challenges such as an urgent and growing need to educate more professionals, especially audiologists. The importance of audiological research as a basis for evidence-based hearing health care to all was stressed by presenting the Audiological Research Center at Örebro university hospital together with two ongoing research projects; one exploring the situation of persons with hearing difficulties in working life and another describing the development of a questionnaire to assess everyday functioning for persons with hearing difficulties.
