Title: Open Forum on Universal Newborn Hearing Screening – Success and challenges

This Zoom webinair sponsored by IAPO with global attendance had special guests from WHO and PAHO and three speakers from countries in Latinamerica . Dr Shelly Chadha from WHO presented the recent Training Manual and an update about the magnitude and impact of hearing loss worldwide and the strategies that can be effective to curtail its progress and avoid the burden to the person , the families and society. Dr Joao Fortes Furtado from PAHO presented aspects of the recent World Report on Hearing that are relevant to America. The three speakers from Argentina, Ecuador and Costa Rica presented how their countries overcame the challenges to implement NHS , strategies that are amenable and low cost and special considerations on rehabilitation. The aim of the forum was to foster discussion and an exchange of strategies that may help advance other countries that still don´t have UNHS as a national policy.
