Community science popularization activity for Ear Care Day

Description:

This event is a community-based hearing health popularization activity for the elderly, held in celebration of World Hearing Day. It aims to improve awareness of age-related hearing loss, ear care, and early intervention among senior residents in local communities.
During the activity, professional staff provide easy-to-understand knowledge about common hearing problems in the elderly, the impact of hearing loss on daily life, communication, and cognitive health. We also introduce safe listening habits, proper ear care, and the importance of timely hearing assessment and intervention.
Free basic hearing consultations and simple hearing screenings are offered on-site to help participants understand their hearing condition. Volunteers guide the elderly in learning how to communicate more effectively with their families, reduce misunderstandings caused by hearing difficulties, and maintain social connections.
We also distribute educational materials on hearing protection and rehabilitation, especially information about suitable hearing assistance devices and related services. By combining lectures, interactive Q&A, and on-site testing, the activity creates a warm, accessible environment for the elderly to learn and ask questions.
This event supports the global mission of World Hearing Day by promoting early detection, reducing stigma around hearing loss, and improving quality of life for the elderly. It encourages families and communities to pay more attention to hearing health, so that every elderly person can enjoy better hearing, clearer communication, and a more active social life.

Impactful Story:

A young participant was found to have hearing loss after screening at our event. The loss was likely due to long-term excessive headphone use. After the hearing health lecture, he fully understood the importance of hearing protection and will adopt safer listening habits.
