Al title (for format and translation – not permanent:
Mapa sensorial hipoacúsico: A sensory mapping experience
Description:
Our project, Mapa Sensorial Hipoacúsico, is an innovative and replicable school-based activity designed to raise awareness about hearing health, auditory accessibility, and noise sensitivity among children and adolescents. Through a guided sensory mapping experience, students explore their classrooms and school grounds to identify high-noise zones, calm spaces, and areas that can be adapted to be more inclusive for diverse hearing needs. Using visual symbols and creative observation tools, students generate maps and co-create “Accessibility Agreements” with their peers and teachers.
This activity will also be implemented in the Mexican Chamber of Deputies and Senate as an advocacy tool to highlight the need for auditory-inclusive environments in policymaking spaces. The Mapa Sensorial Hipoacúsico will be made available as an open-access toolkit to be replicated in schools, homes, workplaces, and other public or private institutions.
As a first-time applicant, we see this initiative as a gateway to influence both cultural awareness and institutional policy from the ground up—promoting spaces that listen, even when sound is missing.
