Description:

Prior to the World hearing day, Visual aids on safe listening and key messages in the Basic Ear and hearing care WHO resource would be printed in multiple copies to serve as take-home messsages for the adolescents. This activity would commence with a pre-programme questionnaire to ascertain their level of knowledge before the interactive session.
The key activities will include:
a) Interactive school-based sensitization sessions conducted in an adolescent and youth friendly manner with the use of Ice-breakers, games and songs to lit up the atmosphere.
b) Age-appropriate talks on hearing health and safe listening. All complex terms would be simplified and all myths and misconceptions would be cleared.
c) There would be a role-play and Demonstrations of safe headphone use and volume control.
d) Ear Screening would be done for the Adolescents.
e) Distribution of the printed educational materials (flyers, posters, or placards that would be on the school notice boards).
f) Announcement of the winner of the design contest.
g) Short quizzes or discussions to reinforce learning
h) Post-test (the checklist would be administered to measure impact)

Impactful Story:

Adolescents in a Senior Secondary school was greatly impacted with the Hearing Sensitization and Screening exercise. This serves as a first time experience for lots of the adolescents and they were taught on how to take good care of their ear.
