Event on World Hearing Day 2026 in ORL SALFA Antsirabe.

Description:

To address the theme launched by the WHO, we will celebrate World Hearing Day on March 6, 2026, for a specific reason.
To this end, partners are being mobilized in the preparation and execution of tasks.

Here is a non-exhaustive list of partners:
– Betesda Salfa Project (working on the health for persons with disabilities)
– Fanilo Voizo CBID (community based for development to people with disabilities)
– Fofama (Local School for the deaf)
– Kolohay (Special education competence center)
– Miaramianatra (inclusive educational system)
– RFF (Radio broadcasting system)

Context:
As every year, World Hearing Day (WHD) is set for March 3, 2026.
This year, we have decided to celebrate WHD on Friday, March 6, 2026.
Referring to the global theme adopted by the WHO for this year, we are focusing our activities on:
“From the community to the classroom: hearing care for all children.”

Objective:
To promote and raise awareness in the community about the importance of hearing health and early care and screening, especially for at-risk children, in order to better guide them when necessary.

Target audiences:
– School-age children, ages 4 to 15, from the community
– Teenagers, young adults, and parents

Planned activities:
– Awareness workshop
– Media campaign: radio broadcast, social media posts
– Free ear consultations for 150 to 200 people
– Audiometric tests for 100 children aged 4 to 15 from the community (CSB2, school, others, etc.)
– Referral of screened children to an appropriate school environment.

Expected results:
– Number of audiometric tests performed
– Increase in the number of children with access to a specialized school environment
– Greater awareness of measures to prevent early deafness
– Distribution of information materials (flyers, posters, etc.)

A total of 25 volunteer persons, medical and non medical will mobilized for the event,

Primary site: AFR – Madagascar
Region: AFR

Secondary sites:Region of Vakinankaratra

Impactful Story:

An 11-year-old child attended the event, brought in by his parents due to a speech delay.
Upon examination, it was determined that the child did not require ear care but rather an audiometric test. The results revealed severe to profound bilateral hearing loss, which was the cause of his speech delay.
We advised his parents to transfer the child to a school for the deaf instead of keeping him in a regular school. The parents accepted the offer, and we hope the child will make rapid progress in his education.
