PARTNERSHIP: Rush University Doctor of Audiology Program and Big Brother Big Sister (BBBS) of Metropolitan Chicago.
BBBS is a mentorship program that matches Bigs (mentors) and Littles (Kids 8-18 years of age). Littles in the BBBS program are 20% more likely to attend college (university) and will earn 15% more in their lifetime. They are also 46% less likely to use illegal drugs and 52% less likely to skip school.

TARGET POPULATION: Littles ages 12-18 enrolled in the BBBS Chicago program

OBJECTIVE: To increase awareness among school age children about the negative effects of loud noise exposure and the benefits of hearing protection.
Participants will learn briefly about how sound waves travel, how our ears hear, how hair cells can get damaged through loud noise exposure, tips how to protect our ears, how to wear hearing protection appropriately, and how to use the NIOSH app to measure loudness level.
