Description: As part of World Hearing Day, “I Hear the World!” is organizing a series of events aimed at supporting children with hearing impairments and their families, enhancing the professional competence of specialists, and strengthening interagency cooperation in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
1. Parent support meeting with a psychologist
Purpose of the event:
• Providing psychological support to parents
• Reducing anxiety levels and emotional burnout
• Building sustainable parental resources for effective assistance to a child
Description: The meeting will be held in a mode of an open dialog with a practicing psychologist, experienced in working with families of children with hearing impairments. Parents will have an opportunity to discuss issues related to accepting the diagnosis, communication strategies with their child, and challenges in socialization and education. The specialist will offer practical recommendations creating a supportive family environment, fostering the child’s confidence and maintaining parents’ emotional balance. Participants also will have an opportunity to share experiences and feel the support of the community.
2. Creative workshop for children with hearing impairments (at the Center of Pediatric Audiology)
Purpose of the event:
• Development of children’s creative potential
• Building the child’s self-confidence and enhancing individual talents
• Creating positive environment for communication and socialization
Description: Under the guidance of specialists, children will be able to feel the music through movement, rhythmic exercises and playing music together. Special attention will be paid to creating the environment, where every child could reach success, demonstrating their abilities, realize creative potential and enjoy participating in the event.
The workshop is aimed at developing of auditory perception (with the use of available rehabilitation devices), coordination, sense of rhythm and group interaction, as well as strengthening self-confidence.
3. Panel discussion
Title: Interagency approach to the pathway of a child with a hearing impairment in Saint Petersburg
Purpose of the event:
• Discussion of an effective system for supporting a child from the moment of hearing impairment identification
• Strengthening the interaction between medical, educational and social institutions
• Development of practical recommendations for improving service pathways and support for families
Description: The panel discussion will bring together representatives from medical, educational and social services to review the system supporting children – early diagnosis and hearing rehabilitation to education and social adaptation. Focus will be on interagency collaboration, continuity of care and informing parents about available support. The meeting will produce recommendations to improve coordination among professionals.
4. Concert “Melody of success”
Purpose of the event:
• Showcasing achievements of children with hearing impairments
• Promoting of positive public attitude toward inclusion
• Supporting children’s self-esteem and motivation
Description: The festive concert will conclude World Hearing Day, featuring children with hearing impairments. Children will display their vocal, musical, and dance talents. The event highlights how modern technology and support help children succeed, inspires families, and promotes an inclusive society.
