Project title: World Hearing Day 2024 Integrated Screening for PEN and Sensory Programmes

Regions: [86] [10] [14] [17] [20] [23] [102]

Outline of the event:

In the Philippines, promoting healthy workplaces is one of the priorities of the Department of Health. In many workplaces, noise is a common hazard, and some sectors involve a higher level of noise exposure. Certain occupations are deemed as high-risk groups with noise exposure. In recent years, new high-risk groups have emerged. Among those, call centers are regarded as the most remarkable ones. Business process outsourcing (BPO) companies are a huge contributor to our Philippine economy. However, BPO workers are exposed to many NCD risk factors. They are at risk to visual problems due to working with long exposure to computers, voice deformation due to continuous talking, and auditory problems due to intense headset use and potential acoustic shocks. The BPO industry is among the most significant contributor to the growth of our nation’s economy, and it is therefore empirical that we also take care of their health.
