Outline of the event:
This a day outreach program targeting a clinic and its community in the city of Lusaka, Zambia Southern area. Lusaka has a population of 2,204,059 with few Ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgeons and audiologists serving this area. Only 3 public hospitals provide ENT and hearing screening services. So with an audiology booth, ENT doctors and an audiology technician we plan to go to a first level clinic in Makeni to screen patients and community members for the whole day 9am to 4pm. The basic activities of hearing test screening, ear examinations, treatment of common ear problems i.e. wax impaction and otitis media will be conducted. the staff will be oriented on screening patients and given upto date information on ENT diseases. The complex cases will be referred to Levy Mwanawasa Hospital for further tests and treatment. The budget will partially funded by the hospital.
