Outline of the event:
Our planned artistic showcase will present 100 strategically invited Lagos policymakers from film, arts, culture and tourism with professional Deaf talents in dance, mime, circus arts and more. This talent-centered event aims to shift mindsets by directly exhibiting stellar Deaf artists currently marginalized by systemic barriers facing the creative community. Ranging from inadequate programming/facilities to prohibitive participation policies, these obstacles have suppressed Deaf inclusion and representation. By securing on-the-day commitments from over 50% of influential attendees towards eliminating exclusionary practices, we hope to catalyze tangible progress through exposure to Lafos’ overlooked but exceptional Deaf creatives. This awareness-building event will center the artistry itself in making the ethical, social and business case for breaking down barriers, allocating resources and forming partnerships that embrace Deaf artists’ rightful place at the mainstream table.
