Outline of the event:
The Rehabilitative Sciences Department is based on one campus of the university. For World Hearing Day, the students and their Community Engagement lecturer are planning to go to the main campus to conduct ear screening, provide educational talks on ear and hearing care, and inform the attendees about how and where to access our profession. The main campus is situated in a rural area and houses many students from disadvantaged backgrounds; conducting an awareness event there will shed light on our profession and services offered and hopefully improve the accessibility of ear and hearing care services. This is because research has shown that not many people, especially in rural areas are aware of our profession and the services offered (Joubert, Sebothoma & Kgare,2017).
