Title: World Hearing Day
Alternate tite:

World Hearing Day

Description:

Under the coordination of speech therapist Kelly F. F. Carsten, four educational videos were produced to address hearing care at different stages of life: pregnancy, childhood, adolescence and adulthood. The videos were prepared in a clear and objective way, ensuring accessibility with subtitles and translation in LIBRAS (Brazilian Sign Language). They were posted on the WEG+ platform, the company’s internal communication social network, allowing employees of the WEG Group, from different regions of Brazil, to access them.
Each video features the participation of a professional from the company’s multidisciplinary health team:

– Video 1: Jessica Moraes Pyskliewitz Fraga (Speech Therapist)
Content: The video informs that, at the end of the 6º month of pregnancy, the baby’s hearing system is already completely formed and the baby is able to hear the mother’s body sounds. Hearing care also begins in prenatal care and it’s essential that the pregnant woman has regular medical follow-up, keeps vaccines up to date and adopts healthy habits. After birth, it is essential to perform the ear test in the first days of life. During breastfeeding, it is important to keep the baby in a semi-eleved position with the head tilted at approximately 45 degrees to reduce the risk of ear infections. If a hearing problem is suspected, the pediatrician must be consulted. The video ends highlighting the importance of being a protagonist in the care of babies’ hearing health from an early age.

– Video 2: Eliete Schug da Silveira (Occupational Nurse)
Content: The video informs that in the first years of life the child’s auditory system is constantly growing and maturing. Any undiagnosed or untreated hearing problem can lead to a significant impact on the development of language, speech and learning skills. It is essential to keep vaccines up to date, avoid noisy toys, the usage of cotton swabs and that children wear headphones. If there is a suspicious that a child is not hearing well the pediatrician or an otolaryngologist must be consulted. The video ends highlighting the importance of being a protagonist in the care of children’s hearing from an early age.

– Video 3: Dr. Ezequiel Cabral de Souza Lima (Occupational Physician)
Content: The video informs that taking good care of hearing involves maintaining healthy lifestyle habits such as a balanced diet and physical exercise. It is very important to avoid environments with very loud sounds and to be careful with the use of headphones whether for listening to music or gaming. The video guides on how to use headphones safely and keep distance from speakers at concerts and parties. The video closes by encouraging everyone to be protagonists in taking care of their own hearing.

– Video 4: Regina Stela Rach (Speech Therapist)
Content: The video informs that in adulthood it is essential to take care of hearing health to prevent future impairments and maintain quality of life. Maintaining healthy habits is important at any age since external factors, chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension, and natural aging can affect hearing. Hearing loss is common with aging and can impact the quality of life if not observed. It is essential to seek medical follow-up to define the best course of action. The video ends by encouraging the search for medical care when noticing any hearing issue.
