Alternate tite:

Echoes of change: Revolutionizing hearing health and transforming lives through awareness, action, and inclusion

Description:

As part of World Hearing Day 2025, Indira Gandhi Medical College (IGMC), Shimla, organized a series of impactful activities to promote hearing health awareness. At GSSS Neen, the “Hearing Heroes in Schools” campaign educated students and teachers using animated videos, interactive games, and hearing screenings. Specialized hearing camps titled “Sound Health for All Ages” were conducted at the ENT OPD and hospital wards of IGMC, offering free screenings and multilingual educational materials. Community outreach in Shimla included a mobile awareness van delivering hearing health education and check-ups, alongside sign language workshops promoting inclusion. Tech sessions on “Safe Listening Habits” educated students about safe headphone use, while the “Hearing for Every Profession” workshop targeted workers in noisy environments. Engaging events like the “Run for Sound Futures” walkathon and “Play, Learn, Protect” carnival further spread awareness. A storytelling circle, “Voices of Empowerment”, helped reduce stigma, ensuring a comprehensive approach to hearing care advocacy.

Impactful Story:

During the “Sound Health for All Ages” hearing camp held at the IGMC ENT OPD, Mr. Prem Singh, a 72-year-old retired postman, attended the camp after years of silently struggling with hearing difficulties. Over time, Mr. Singh had grown isolated, avoiding conversations and social gatherings due to his worsening hearing. During the screening, doctors identified significant age-related hearing loss and recommended a hearing aid. He received his device and was guided on its proper use. The results were heartwarming — Mr. Singh could finally engage in conversations with his family, hear his grandchildren’s laughter, and reconnect with his community.
