Hearing consultation and hearing aid experience day: Professional guidance, enjoy sound life

Description:

On March 1, 2025, on the eve of the 26th National Ear Care Day (March 3), Sichuan Province Nanchong Special Education School, Wufu Nursing Home and Nanchong High School Linjiang Campus High School ushered in a public service activity with the theme of “healthy listening without hindered communication”. Nanchong, as a regional medical center in northeast Sichuan, has a large elderly population base, prominent problems of ear habits among teenagers, and significant needs for special education. In response to this situation, the innovative service form, consisting of volunteers from the otorhinolaryngology Head and neck surgery staff of the Affiliated Hospital of North Sichuan Medical College and the science and technology volunteer service team of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association, extends the “hearing health classroom” to campuses, nursing homes and special education institutions for the first time, and establishes a science popularization system covering the whole life cycle of “child-youth-elderly”.
As a highlight of the activity, the team went to Nanchong Special Education School to customize personalized hearing assessment programs for hearing-impaired children, and jointly carried out sign language science classes with school teachers. Associate Professor Li Bei, head of the research office, demonstrated the use of voice assistance devices on site to help the hearing-impaired children establish a more smooth communication bridge with the outside world. The Municipal Disabled Persons’ Federation simultaneously interprets the National Disability Prevention Action Plan (2021-2025), and introduces in detail the policies of benefiting the people such as hearing aid subsidies and rehabilitation training, so that special families can feel the policy temperature.
In Wufu Nursing Home, the expert team carried out ear health screening and hearing aid equipment debugging for more than 50 elderly people, and explained the prevention and rehabilitation knowledge of senile deafness in combination with dialects. In the middle school of Linjiang Campus of Nanchong High School, nearly 100 teachers and students directly felt the harm of improper ear use through interactive experiments such as immersive noise simulation experience and headset safety test. “This is the first time I know that wearing headphones for more than 60 minutes can damage your hearing,” the student representative said. “In the future, you must pay attention to protecting your ears!” “Hearing loss is progressive and insidious, and early screening and treatment is the key.” Dr. Pan Qingchun, representative of the Science and technology Volunteer service team of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association, emphasized, “We hope to promote the popularization of hearing health knowledge and technology sinking through the Aiyue action, especially paying attention to the key groups of ‘one old and one young’.”
It is reported that as one of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association science and technology volunteer service ear month series activities, the work will last until March. Simultaneously launched online and offline science popularization actions, the volunteer team relying on the hospital public account and community health platform launched the “hearing health cloud classroom”, published the ear health exercise teaching video, listening self-test guide and other science popularization content, and opened online consultation channels to benefit more people in remote areas. With the continuous promotion of the Chinese Rehabilitation Medical Association’s Ear Month activity, the volunteer service group of North Sichuan Medical College said that in the future, it will cooperate with more institutions to establish a normal service mechanism, and regularly carry out activities such as hearing screening into the campus and community health lectures, to help realize the vision of “everyone enjoys hearing health” and let “unhindered communication” enter reality.

Impactful Story:

“headset volume do not exceed 60%, do not use more than 60 minutes!” “Never use a cotton swab to pick an itchy ear!” Combined with the living habits of the elderly, the team printed the “Silver Ear Protection Manual”, which presents the points of ear protection for the convenience of the elderly. “The original often pick ears will damage the eardrum, today learned!” Ms. Li, 78. During the activity, volunteers also led the elderly to practice “ear health exercises”, helping to promote blood circulation in the ear through traditional Chinese medicine techniques such as massaging the auricle and drumming.
