To commemorate World Hearing Day 2025, the Department of Disability Studies, Faculty of Medicine, University of Kelaniya organized a series of awareness and screening activities. In collaboration with the ENT Clinic at North Colombo Teaching Hospital, Ragama, hearing screening was conducted by the academic staff for approximately 150 primary-grade children at a local school. Additionally, around 40 individuals were screened at the university audiology clinic located at the Ayati National Centre for Children with Disabilities by undergraduate audiology students under the supervision of academic staff. Public awareness efforts included the distribution of approximately 600 leaflets and 30 posters among the Ragama community and university students at the main campus. A workshop was also conducted at Basilica National School, Ragama, to educate teachers on safe listening practices, early detection of hearing issues, and supporting students with hearing difficulties. Furthermore, a social media campaign was launched on Facebook and WhatsApp, promoting hearing health and prevention.
