Title: Hearing the Future: Empowering Communities in Lusaka Through Inclusive Hearing Care Awareness
Alternate tite:
Hearing the future: Empowering communities in Lusaka through inclusive hearing care awareness
Description:
This initiative embodies the World Hearing Forum’s principles by promoting public awareness, advocating for accessible ear and hearing care, and reducing stigmas associated with hearing loss. Our community-based approach ensures inclusivity, innovation, and empowerment.
Zedquest Consultancy implemented a community-based awareness campaign focused on children at St. Matthews UCZ church in Lusaka, Zambia. The weekly sessions, conducted every Sunday, brought together both hearing and non-hearing children in a safe, inclusive learning environment.
The aim was to promote ear and hearing care, reduce stigma, and foster empathy and understanding among children. Activities included interactive storytelling, group discussions, and age-appropriate education on the importance of hearing health.
By intentionally integrating children with hearing loss with their hearing peers, the campaign emphasized inclusiveness and empowerment, in line with the WHD 2025 theme: “Changing Mindsets: Empower yourself! Make ear & hearing care a reality for all!”
Although scaled down from our original plan, this initiative successfully reached over 60 children, built awareness, and created positive attitudes toward hearing care within the church community.

Impactful Story:
We will call her Mary a young girl with hearing loss, began attending Sunday School at our church. Through sunday sessions, which purposefully integrated children with and without hearing difficulties, She found a supportive environment where she could engage, learn, and be celebrated for her efforts.
The program’s inclusive approach and activities helped Mary gain confidence, participate freely, and build friendships. Her consistent presence, enthusiasm, and interaction with others did not go unnoticed.
Mary’s story is a powerful testament to how safe, inclusive spaces inspired by World Hearing Day activities can break down stigma, shift mindsets, and change lives.
