Title: Word Hearing Day 2025-Awarness and Screening program
Alternate tite:

Word hearing day 2025 – awareness and screening program

Description:

Hearing Screening and Awareness Program – Colombo and Kandy, Sri Lanka

We conducted a public hearing screening and awareness program in several key locations across Colombo, including Maradana, Colombo 01, and Battaramulla. The objective was to raise awareness about hearing loss and promote early detection and intervention.

Free hearing screenings were offered by trained professionals, with over 300 individuals benefiting from the service. We created and distributed visually appealing leaflets in both Sinhala and English, containing vital information on hearing health, preventive measures, and the importance of timely treatment.

To enhance community engagement, we actively promoted the program through social media. Informative stories and posts were shared on platforms like Facebook and Instagram, successfully increasing public participation.

This initiative helped reduce stigma and improve understanding about hearing care in the community. We thank WHO for supporting global hearing health efforts and look forward to continuing similar outreach programs to promote better hearing health for all.

Impactful Story:

Mrs. Sujeewa, a dedicated nurse at Kiribathgoda Base Hospital, played a vital role in organizing and supporting our hearing screening and awareness program. She reached out to us to initiate community-based awareness and screening efforts, particularly targeting vulnerable groups. Her proactive involvement has led to early identification and referrals, helping prevent chronic ear conditions. Through her coordination, we reached local factories where our advocacy sessions resulted in a noticeable behavior change—workers now consistently use hearing protection. Mrs. Sujeewa’s commitment exemplifies how local healthcare partnerships can effectively promote ear and hearing care at the grassroots level.
