Title: Empowering Hearing Diversity Forum 2025
Alternate tite:
Empowering Hearing Diversity Forum 2025
Description:
For this 2025 WHD we reinforced hearing care and health with an inclusive and practical approach that empowers different hearing identities with the implementation of hearing accessibility requirements through a forum, with 5 hours of duration, in the Mexican Deputy Chamber that will contain a practical and simple workshop within the International Hearing Day (March 3rd) framework by the World Health Organization (WHO), which this year is promoted under the motto of “Changing mindsets: Empower yourself to make ear and hearing care a reality for all!”
Those thematic axes are:
1. Empowering Hearing Identities: promoting the hearing diversity through medical diagnostic and socioeconomic context in the Hard of Hearing identity.
2. Hearing Accessibility in Cities: sharing some relevant Hard of Hearing accessibility points to implement in urban planning.
3. Other main tech based requirements of the Hard of Hearing people and others such as noise reduction and ear protection.
4. Practical workshop implementing Hard of Hearing accessibility: activities focused on self-care, mental health, the use of assistive technologies, and empowerment dynamics for Hard of hearing people and to raise awareness among the hearing population to take care of their hearing.
The event exceeded our expectations, bringing together more than 4,600 people in person and virtually, consolidating its position as a highly relevant event nationwide.
Results Achieved:
* Reached more than 4,600 people interested in hearing diversity and empowerment.
* Organization of successful in-person events with broad attendance increasing participation of young people, adults and people from diverse communities.
* Strengthened the Hard of Hearing community nationwide.
* Creation of the first two supportive networks among Hard of hearing people from different national states.
* Raised awareness of hearing accessibility needs in public and legislative forums.
* Active participation in national media press and broadcast (Milenio and Canal Once).

Impactful Story:
Some of our new members, attended the “Empowering Hearing Diversity 2025” forum at the Mexican Chamber of Deputies on World Hearing Day. Diagnosed with moderate or severe hearing loss at different ages, they had never identified with any hearing group until this event. Seeing empowered Hard of Hearing individuals speak helped them to recognize their own experience, joined the official national group of the Mexican Hard of Hearing Community, and began exploring hearing health and technology more actively. Most importantly, the forum gave them the courage to request their accessibility requirements at work and affirm: “Now I have an identity.”
