Alternate tite:

School hearing screening day in commemoration of World Hearing Day 2025

Description:

Medical staff we visited 3 schools from kindergarten to preschool, to perform auditory screening test using equipment of acoustic otoemissions. We evaluated a total of 117 children aged 1 to 6 years. Of the 117 children, 10 did not pass the auditory screening, these 10 children were sent for diagnostic evaluation. After performing auditory assessment with audiometry and timpanometry we detected 5 children wih Eustachian tube dysfunction, 3 children with serous otitis media, 1 child with sensory middle hearing loss and 1 child with normal hearing. The children detected with middle ear problem were sent for evaluation by ETN. The child with sensory middle hearing loss was sent to speech therapy and adaptation of hearing aids.
We consider that the realization of this day of preschool hearing screening was a success by being able to detect 10 cases with hearing problems no detected by parents and teachers.
We will continue to carry out these screening days every year in school trying to cover more centers every year.

Primary site: AMR – Mexico
