Title: Hearing & Speech Month
Alternate tite:
Hearing & Speech Month
Description:
A hands-on workshop on Auditory-Verbal Therapy was conducted for BS Speech-Language Pathology students at Riphah International University. Assistant Professor Dr. Farheen Naz Anis led the session, focusing on communication strategies used with children having hearing aids or cochlear implants. The workshop emphasized the role of a speech-language pathologist in facilitating spoken language development through listening. Dr. Farheen demonstrated various auditory-verbal techniques, and students actively participated in practicing these strategies using manipulatives. The interactive nature of the workshop allowed students to engage in real-time learning, apply theoretical concepts, and build confidence in handling clinical situations. Students reported that the session was both informative and practical, enhancing their professional competence and understanding of auditory-based interventions for hearing-impaired children. This experiential learning opportunity made a significant contribution to their clinical training and inspired them to explore evidence-based approaches in early auditory and language rehabilitation.

Impactful Story:
At Riphah International University, a hands-on workshop on Auditory-Verbal Therapy brought BS SLP students closer to the real-world challenges faced by hearing-impaired children. Guided by Dr. Farheen Naz Anis, students practiced strategies to support spoken language through listening. As they worked with manipulatives and explored effective techniques, their confidence and clinical skills grew. This training goes beyond the classroom—it prepares future therapists to help children with hearing loss integrate into mainstream society. By equipping professionals with practical knowledge, such initiatives ultimately foster inclusivity, early intervention, and improved communication outcomes for children and families in the broader community.
