5th Conference “Have you heard – noise is harmful?”
Description:
The 5th conference, “Have you heard – noise is harmful?”, was organized by the National Labour Inspectorate, ATEST, the Audio Engineering Society, Wrocław University of Science and Technology, and 3M Poland (at the National Labour Inspectorate’s Center of Excellence in Poland). We hosted the following advisory and content partners: the Central Institute for Labour Protection – National Research Institute, the World Hearing Center, the Polish Association of the Deaf, the Polish Acoustical Society, the Acoustical Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the MEDINCUS Hearing and Speech Center, Audika, and Amazon.
As in previous years, the key element was the experts’ discussion about the key messages of the WHO agenda and this year’s WHF topics. This was divided into two discussion panels: the first, “Is noise still a problem?”, focused on workplace adaptation for deaf and hard of hearing employees, and the second, “Hearing protection from childhood,” addressed education on hearing health for children and adolescents. In response to participant requests, this year we added four interactive workshops covering noise risks at venues and events, hearing aids, headphone listening, and noise exposure in schools.
During the conference, hearing screening provided by Audika and hearing protection fitting provided by 3M were freely available. The event attracted more than 300 attendees (online and on site). It was accessible both onsite and online, with full open access; sign language interpretation was provided for deaf participants. The event was actively promoted through social media and printed journal issues (12,000 copies). The conference was recorded and is available on the National Labour Inspectorate YouTube channel.
