Promote scientific awareness of ear health nationwide and jointly protect hearing health
Description:
On March 3, 2026, in observance of World Hearing Day, a series of public health and educational activities will be held in Xuzhou. These events are designed to raise awareness about hearing health, provide free medical services, and educate the community on the prevention of hearing loss.
The day’s activities will begin at the Affiliated Hospital of Xuzhou Medical University. In the hospital’s outpatient hall, esteemed ENT specialists from the department will conduct a free public consultation . This session will allow citizens to ask questions directly to experts and receive preliminary advice on hearing issues. Alongside the consultations, the hospital will host a popular science exhibition on audiology, using informative displays to explain how the ear works and the importance of protecting one’s hearing.
In the afternoon, the outreach efforts will move into the community. At Die Meng Community, teams led by postgraduate students from the university’s audiology program will set up a hearing screening station. They will provide free, basic hearing checks for local residents, particularly the elderly, and distribute pamphlets containing practical tips for everyday ear care.
Simultaneously, another student team will visit Xuzhou Xinyuan Primary School. Here, the focus will be on the younger generation. The postgraduates will conduct gentle, age-appropriate hearing screenings for the children. Following the screenings, they will lead an interactive and engaging (lecture) on ear health, teaching the students how to protect their ears from loud noises and the importance of ear hygiene in a fun and memorable way.
Through these coordinated efforts in a hospital, a community, and a school, this initiative aims to promote lifelong hearing health for all ages.

Impactful Story:
Mr. Zhang, a 70-year-old resident of Die Meng Community, had avoided social gatherings due to untreated hearing loss. During the World Hearing Day screening, postgraduate students identified abnormalities in his wideband tympanometry and digit triplets test results, and referred him to the affiliated hospital for further examination. Pure-tone audiometry revealed mild conductive hearing loss. He was subsequently advised to change his listening habits and stay away from noisy environments.
