Raising awareness on ear and hearing care through radio talk show – WHD 2026

Description:

In commemoration of World Hearing Day 2026, a live radio talk show was conducted at RRI Banda Aceh under the theme “From Community to Classroom: Ear and Hearing Care for Every Child.” The program aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of early detection and proper management of ear and hearing problems in children.

During the session, key messages included the importance of routine hearing screening, early recognition of warning signs such as delayed speech and language development, frequent requests for repetition, difficulty concentrating in class, ear pain, or ear discharge. The discussion also highlighted how untreated hearing problems may negatively affect academic performance, communication skills, and psychosocial development.

The talk show encouraged early medical consultation and hearing examinations to prevent children from being left behind due to avoidable or treatable hearing conditions. Through this community-based radio platform, the activity aimed to strengthen collaboration between families, schools, and healthcare providers in promoting ear and hearing health for every child.

Impactful Story:

During the World Hearing Day 2026 radio talk show at RRI Banda Aceh, a mother contacted the station after recognizing that her 5-year-old son often asked for repetition and had delayed speech. Motivated by the information shared about early warning signs, she brought her child for a hearing examination. The assessment confirmed conductive hearing loss due to otitis media with effusion. Following appropriate treatment and counseling, the child showed improved responsiveness and classroom participation within weeks. This case demonstrates how public awareness through media outreach directly led to early detection and timely intervention, preventing further learning delays.
