Commemoration of World Hearing Day 2026: Hearing Care for All Children
Description:
The Cameroon Baptist Convention Health Services (CBCHS) in partnership with the Christian Blind Mission within the framework of the ongoing “Strengthening Ear and Hearing Care Capacities in Cameroon” project, plans to commemorate World Hearing Day through a series of organised activities in the week of World Hearing Day. These activities combine facility-based newborn screening in Yaoundé – Centre region, awareness raising, equipment donation to 3 secondary health facilities and high-level advocacy meetings to meetings with national stakeholders and local actors to advance the development of a draft national plan for ear and hearing care in Cameroon.
These initiatives support national and global efforts to promote ear and hearing care for all children, ensuring that no child suffers from hearing loss as a result of preventable causes and children with hearing impairment are able to reach their full hearing potential.
In collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health Cameroon, the World Hearing Day activities have been structured as follows:
Monday 2 March 2026 – Audiology equipment donation to Centre Hopitalier et Universitaire de Yaoundé (A secondary health facility for Ear, Nose and Throat Services in the Centre region of Cameroon).
Tuesday 3 March 2026 – Outreach screening for children 0 to 18 years at Centre Hopitalier et Universitaire de Yaoundé with a target to reach 100 children through consultations and screening services, 50% of which are female, and 40% referral cases.
Wednesday 4 March 2026 & Thursday 5 March 2026 – Advocacy meetings with high level national stakeholders for the development of a draft national plan for ear and hearing health in Cameroon.
Friday 5 March 2026 – Audiology equipment donation to Mboppi Baptist Hospital ((A secondary health facility in the Littoral region of Cameroon).
Tuesday 17 March 2026 – Audiology equipment donation to Mbingo Baptist Hospital ((A secondary health facility in the Northwest region of Cameroon).
The implementation of these activities will significantly contribute to strengthening ear and hearing care services by promoting early identification of hearing loss among children, improving community awareness on prevention measures and treatment options for ear and hearing health, and enhancing service delivery systems in Cameroon.
