Listen, learn, succeed – a one-day school and parent hearing awareness action

Description:

On the occasion of World Hearing Day 2026, we organized a live awareness event at an educational institution to promote the importance of ear and hearing care among children and adolescents. Although World Hearing Day is officially observed on March 3, our activity was conducted on March 2, 2026, due to the following day being a public holiday. This adjustment ensured maximum participation while maintaining alignment with the global campaign.
Approximately 70–80 children participated in the event. The primary objective was to increase awareness about hearing health, prevent hearing loss, and encourage safe listening practices from an early age. The program began with an interactive awareness session highlighting the importance of healthy hearing and practical steps to protect ears from damage.
Participants were educated about common causes of hearing loss, including exposure to loud noise, untreated ear infections, unsafe use of headphones and mobile devices, and improper ear cleaning practices. Special emphasis was placed on responsible listening habits and the importance of seeking medical attention when experiencing symptoms such as ear pain, discharge, or difficulty hearing.
Awareness banners displaying key messages of World Hearing Day were prominently placed at the venue to reinforce the campaign’s theme and create a visible learning environment. These banners helped communicate essential information not only to participating students but also to teachers and visitors present at the institution.
The event also included basic ear inspection and guidance, with advice provided on when professional screening is necessary. Teachers and school staff actively supported the activity and encouraged student engagement throughout the session.
The program was conducted in a participatory manner, allowing children to ask questions and share their thoughts. This interactive approach helped ensure that the information was clearly understood and effectively delivered.
At the conclusion of the event, refreshments were distributed among the children as a gesture of appreciation for their active participation. The activity created a positive and memorable learning experience while strengthening awareness of hearing health within the school community.
Overall, the event successfully promoted ear and hearing care awareness among children and encouraged them to adopt safe listening practices and share key health messages with their families and communities.
