World Hearing Day initiatives by West China Hospital

Description:

To mark World Hearing Day, West China Hospital, Sichuan University, launched a series of public welfare science popularization activities focused on hearing health. Covering all age groups and held in diverse venues including schools, communities, and rehabilitation institutions, these events aimed to promote the concept of lifelong hearing care and integrate scientific ear protection into daily life.
The activities were designed to address the specific needs of different populations. For young children in primary schools and kindergartens, interactive science popularization classes were held to teach basic ear care knowledge in a fun and engaging way, helping them develop good habits from an early age. For the general public, free clinical consultations were provided, allowing people to seek professional advice on hearing health issues. College students benefited from combined hearing screenings and science popularization sessions, raising awareness about noise-induced hearing loss and preventive measures.
For hearing-impaired children, the hospital offered free cochlear implant adjustments and targeted hearing science education, supporting their rehabilitation and integration into society. For the elderly, free hearing screenings and education on age-related hearing loss were conducted, helping them detect problems early and improve their quality of life.
Led by professional committees such as the Hearing Rehabilitation Professional Committee of the Chinese Association of Rehabilitation Medicine, these activities embodied the spirit of “Scientific Ear Care for All, Jointly Safeguarding Hearing Health.” By reaching out to people from all walks of life, from young children to the elderly, and from hearing individuals to those with hearing impairments, the hospital strived to create a more inclusive and hearing-friendly society, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beauty of sound.
