In this year 2026 World Hearing Day celebration, the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences, UHAS, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana engaged in the following events:
1. Advocacy
a).Public enlightenment on noise induced hearing loss (NIHL), public education on use of protective devices in noisy areas and work places and distribution of free earplugs at Trafalgar Taxi Rank, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana.
2). Public enlightenment on Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC): Volta Star Radio 91.3 and 97.7 from 8am – 8:30 am and also published in the bulletin (news line).
Topics discussed on GBC Volta Star Radio (Mode of Communication from the Faculty and Facilitators – English Language, Ewe Language and Twi Language):
a) Identifying the “hidden signs” of hearing loss (Caregivers and Teachers).
b) Creating “inclusive classroom” (Educators)
c) The power of peer support for individuals with hearing loss (Students and Friends)
d) Community responsibilities
3.Health Talk – Training the Trainer on Ear and Hearing Care at the Nurses Training College, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana and distribution of free earplugs.
4. School Screening and Distribution of Free Ear Plugs at:
a) Fiave Global M/A Junior High School, Ho Volta Region, Ghana.
b)Treasures Christian School, Ho, Volta Region, Ghana.
5.Dissemination of information, activities and WHO educational materials:
a) Audiology Clinic at the Ho Teaching Hospital (HTH)
