INTRODUCTION
THE WORLD HEARING DAY 2026 WAS COMMOMORATED BY THE ENT DIVISION OF AHMADU BELLO UNIVERSITY TEACHING HOSPITAL ZARIA, IN BOMO MODEL PRIMARY SCHOOL, BOMO, SABON GARI LGA, KADUNA STATE, NIGERIA
ACTIVITIES
1800 SCHOOL CHILDREN WERE ATTENDED TO
HEALTH TALK WAS GIVEN TO THE PUPILS AND TEACHERS SEPERATELY ON THE IMPORTANCE OF HEARING, CAUSES/RISKS AND PREVENTION OF HEARING LOSS, EARLY DETECTION AND THE NEED FOR REFERAL TO AN APPROPRIATE FACILITY.
PAMPLETS WERE DISTRIBUTED TO THE CHILDREN AND TEACHERS TO AID UNDERSTANDING
THE CHILDREN HAD CLINICAL ASSESSMENT AND EAR EXAMINATIONS
150 CHILDREN HAD EAR SYRINGING DONE FOR IMPACTED WAX, WITH ADDITIONAL 8 VARIOUS FOREING BODIES REMOVED.
50 CHILDREN WITH SUSPECTED HEARING LOSS HAD SCREENING AUDIOMETRY DONE, AMONG WHICH 14 HAD MILD HEARING LOSS, 1 HAD PROFOUND HEARING LOSS, WHILE OTHERS HAD NORMAL HEARING
REFERRAL WAS ESTABLISHED FOR FOLLOW UP AND FURTHER TREATMENT FOR THOSE WITH HEARING LOSS
CONCLUSION: THE ACTIVITIES FOR THE WORLD HEARING DAY 3RD MARCH, 2026 WAS REBOST AND SUCCESFUL WITH THE SUPPORT OF WHD SMALL GRANT, WE LOOK FORWARD FOR A MORE COLLOBORATION TO ESTABLISH AN INTERVENTION ON HEARING LOSS IN OUR RESOURCE LIMITED SETTINGS
