In commemoration of World Hearing Day 2026, the Audiology community at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila‑Orangun organized an awareness programme aimed at promoting hearing health and preventing hearing loss within the community.
The event was attended by several distinguished personalities including the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Akeem Olawale Lasisi, an ENT surgeon and lecturer in the Department of Audiology. Other attendees included faculty members of the Audiology Department, the Dean of the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, and our guest lecturer, Dr. Simeon Afolabi, CEO of BSA Hearing and Speech Centre in Lagos, Nigeria.
As part of the programme, primary school pupils and primary healthcare workers from the surrounding community were invited to participate. The activities included a symposium on hearing health, awareness creation on hearing loss prevention, and free hearing screening for all children present. The healthcare workers were also educated on the importance of early detection and proper management of hearing conditions.
The programme successfully created awareness about hearing health and emphasized the importance of early screening and intervention. The event was highly engaging and impactful, leaving participants better informed about protecting their hearing and seeking timely care.
Overall, the World Hearing Day celebration at the Federal University of Health Sciences, Ila‑Orangun was a memorable and impactful experience that strengthened community awareness and highlighted the role of collaborative efforts in promoting hearing health.
