Hearing Week – AICE Federation

Description:

To celebrate World Hearing Day and our own “Hearing Week” from February 25th (Cochlear Implant Day) to March 3rd, (World Hearing Day), the Asociación de Implantados Cocleares de Cantabria (AICE Cantabria), member of Federación AICE organized a comprehensive week of activities designed to raise awareness, promote ear health, and demonstrate that with the right technology, inclusion is possible.

Key Highlights of our Campaign:
– Public Awareness & Outreach: We set up information booths throughout the region, including primary care centers and the Marqués de Valdecilla University Hospital. Additionally, our awareness campaign video was broadcast on Santander’s public bus network.

– Institutional Support: Several city halls across the province joined the cause by illuminating their facades in symbolic colors, and we held press conferences with local media to reach a wider audience.

– Digital Impact: We launched a dedicated social media campaign to educate the public on hearing loss and the importance of early intervention.

– Accessible Culture: We organized inclusive cultural visits, including theater performances for both children and adults in colaboration with local theatre Miriñaque. These events featured live subtitling and technical aids (FM systems/Loop), ensuring a barrier-free experience. We also hosted a guided tour of a historical site in Santander “Refugio Antiaéreo” (Air Raid Shelter) with full hearing accessibility support.

– Inclusive Sports: Proving that hearing loss is no limit to adventure, we organized a “Snowshoeing Trek” (Raquetada) in the mountains of Alto Campoo (Cantabria), made fully accessible through the use of FM systems, allowing participants to follow instructions and socialize in challenging environments.

– Education for the Future: We visited schools and educational centers to give talks on hearing loss prevention, how cochlear implants and hearing aids work, and the importance of ear care.

Through these actions, AICE Cantabria continues to work towards a world where hearing health is a priority and communication is a right for everyone.

Impactful Story:

Thanks to the use of assistive devices like FM systems and the dedicated support of AICE Cantabria, cochlear implant users in Cantabria are breaking communication barriers. These technical aids allow members to actively train their listening skills in real-world environments. By providing full accessibility—even in challenging acoustic spaces like the city’s historical Air Raid Shelters—we ensure that everyone can fully engage with their local history. Technology and community support transform hearing loss into an opportunity for active participation and lifelong learning.
