Hear today, hear tomorrow: Free hearing screenings & ear protection education

Description:

In recognition of World Hearing Day, our team will host a dual-site community outreach initiative providing free hearing screenings and education on ear protection and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss across the lifespan. During the morning session, activities will take place in our institution’s children’s hospital, focusing on pediatric patients and families. In the afternoon, the event will continue at our adult care facility, targeting adult and older adult populations.

This initiative is designed to increase public awareness that noise-related hearing damage can be permanent yet preventable. Participants will receive brief hearing checks along with practical, evidence-based guidance on safe listening practices, appropriate use of hearing protection, recognition of early signs of hearing change, and indications for formal evaluation.

The event is led by a multidisciplinary team of medical students, audiologists, hearing health specialists, community health workers, and otolaryngologists, working together to deliver accessible screening and prevention-focused education to the community. Through this effort, we aim to promote lifelong hearing health, encourage early identification of hearing concerns, and equip individuals and families with actionable strategies to reduce everyday noise exposure risks.
