Discovering World Hearing Day 2026

Description:

The Kids Ear and Hearing Health and Discovery Centre teams, Perth Children’s Hospital Audiology Department and University of Western Australia Audiology students hosted a fun activation to engage children and their families attending the hospital to provide education and share resources. This activation included:

• Video otoscopy, run by University of Western Australia Audiology students showing children and parents what inside of ear looks like
• “Ear-goo” activity, demonstrating biofilm present in the middle ears of children with otitis media. This was very well received by the daycare group that visited the Discovery Centre
• Didgeridoo performance by Dylan Shillito, proud Wadjak Balardong Noongar man, in the Perth Children’s Hospital Atrium, attended by daycare children and public
• Story time – ‘What the Ladybird Heard’ (by Julia Donaldson, Lydia Monks), also attended by pre-kindy children
• World Hearing Day flyers, developed by a University of Western Australia student, advocating for childhood hearing loss prevention and early detection
• A Cochlear Implant Audiologist provided information to families about care pathways within the hospital on the day too
• The team also had QR codes available with referral pathways for any parents concerns about children ear health and/or hearing
