World Hearing Day 2026: Healthy hearing for a healthy future
Description:
The campaign will be led by a team from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul with some participants from Federal University of Health Sciences of Porto Alegre and will take place in a community, with the team divided between a local school and a primary health care facility. At school, two lectures will be held: one for children and one for adolescents, both accompanied by their teachers. After the lecture, there will be a hearing screening session, with otoacoustic emission testing and tympanometry, after which cases of suspected hearing loss will be referred for subsequent hearing assessment. At the primary care facility, brochures will be distributed to adults in the community, as well as to local health professionals. In addition, a telephone number and an e-mail address will be provided to schedule hearing assessments for children and adolescents whose guardians are concerned about hearing loss. Both at school and at the health facility, questions will be asked through a questionnaire before and after the campaign, and the effectiveness of the action will be verified.
