There are education session for parents before Ear Wax Removal & Hearing Screening activity. The topics are about how to maintain ear health, tips for cleaning ears at home safely, the importance of regular ear examinations, and the importance of early detection of hearing loss from dr. Vania Dwi Andhani, Sp. T.H.T.B.K.L.
Ear wax removal & hearing screening is yearly activity of Aurica Foundation. There are more 100 infants/ babies, toddlers and children between 3-6 years old in this event. Yayasan Aurica in collaboration with Indonesian Society of Otorhinolaryngologists – Head and Neck Surgeons (East Java), Indonesian National Committee for the Prevention of Hearing Impairment and Deafness (East Java), Dr. Soetomo Regional Public Hospital-Surabaya, Universitas Airlangga Hospital, Sidosermo Community Health Center. There are 15 ENT doctors, and 10 hearing screening team in this event. The majority of them have a lot of earwax in their ears. With Ear Wax Removal activities it really helps children to hear better. There are some babies, toddler and children whose results are “Refer” after hearing screening. If there is an unknown cause (beside the earwax), the doctors provides a referral for further treatment at the Community Public Health or Hospital. Beside those participants, there are 5 adults and 5 elders who also join this ear wax removal & hearing screening. Because of complaints about their ears ringing and poor hearing. There are several stakeholder who has come to join this activity. They’re always support our events.

There are 100 infants/ babies, toddler and children has benefitted from early identification. There are about 10 children who detected to further treatment after hearing screening results, there are 5 elderly have got a treatment & management of ear and hearing problems, there are 110 parents, adult & elderly have got prevention advocacy that led behavior change
