Description:

The Department of ENT and Audiology successfully organized the World Hearing Day Celebration with the aim of creating awareness regarding hearing loss, early detection of hearing impairment, and rehabilitation services available for patients and children with hearing disabilities.
The program included a Free Hearing Screening Camp and Hearing Rehabilitation Initiative conducted for the benefit of the community.
A poster competition was also organized for undergraduate students where they were encouraged to make posters in marathi ( vernacular language) about noise pollution and how to avoid it.

Impactful Story:

“From Silence to Speech – A Transformational Journey”
A 1&1/2 year-old girl Chinmayee Chavan from rural Kolhapur was brought to our ENT department by her uncle with a history of deafmutism. The parents, daily wage workers.
After detailed audiological evaluation, The family was counseled regarding the need for a cochlear implant. However, due to severe financial constraints, the family was unable to afford the procedure.
With institutional support and RBSK ( government scheme) at Dr. D. Y. Patil Medical College & Hospital, the chinmayee underwent cochlear implant surgery at the age of 2 years.
