3M hosted a series of webinars in different languages during the month of March, the focus was education and hearing protection in workplaces.
Hearing loss caused by hazardous noise affects ~5% of population worldwide – about 380 million people. Around 1/3 of Europe’s workforce is exposed to high levels of workplace noise, 25% of the time. Many activities require using Hearing Protection Devices (HPDs) together with other personal protective equipment (PPE) such as protective eyewear. If not compatible, protection may be affected. Comfort, fit and compatibility are some of the important factors for consideration when selecting HPDs.
This webinars covered the following key points:
• Recognising risks and the impact of Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)
• The importance of selection, fit and compatibility in hearing protections performance
• A scientific study of workers wearing both protective eyewear and protective earmuffs, revealing compatibility affects sound attenuation
• EN 458 Guidance documents recommendations on selection, use and fit testing
• Developments in Hearing Protection Devices assessment and selection through Product Category Rules and Environmental Product Declaration’s
