Title: World Hearing Day Free Hearing Screenings for Faculty, Staff & Community Members

Description:

Doctor of Audiology (AuD) graduate students in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences (SLHS) at Purdue University hosted free community hearing screenings on Friday, March 3 to promote World Hearing Day (WHD). Clinical Assistant Professor, Anne Sommer, AuD challenged students to brainstorm activities allowing them to share their growing knowledge from the SLHS 570 Hearing Conservation course. With the success of the Purdue Men’s Basketball program this season, there has been increased awareness of the hazardous sound levels created by cheering fans in Mackey Arena. This led the AuD students to create a hearing loss prevention public awareness social media campaign featuring the university mascot, Purdue Pete. The student-led interview and photo shoot with Purdue Pete was featured in an article by Tim Brouk which was widely shared via social media. Additionally, Final Fit Safety donated 300 pairs of BioSoft Plant-Based earplugs to distribute on World Hearing Day.
