Title: HEARING AIDS DONATION

Description:

The Hospital Universitário Dr. Agostinho Neto conducted pure tone and speech audiometry between 19th and 24 th February.
42 people with hearing loss were identified and 35 of them got free hearing aids (7 children and 28 adults).
During March, we followed up these people and they were generally managing well.
This project was done with the partnership of Fundacao Clarós (Spain) and Cavibel & Ceris (Equatorial Coca-cola Bottling Company Cabo Verde).

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) estimates that approximately 126,000-500,000 children are born each year with hearing loss and about 90% of them live in developing countries. Children are the most affected compromising their neuropsychomotor development.
We also concluded that neonatal hearing screening in Cape Verde would help to achieve better education of parents and earlier intervention for infants.
