Event Description:

The Department of Speech and Hearing at Father Muller College, Mangalore, proposes a series of initiatives to commemorate World Hearing Day 2025, aligning with WHO’s initiative to establish global standards for listening levels in gaming and sports. Concerning this, early identification of hearing issues in teens and young adults is essential in preventing long-term complications, associated with recreational noise exposure.
Venue/Location: Schools and Colleges in Mangalore city
Planned Actions:
• Educate teens and young adults about the risks of loud impact noise exposure, especially from video games involving loud bursts of sound (gunshot, explosion, honking, etc.) and recreational music (personal music players and DJs), through interactive sessions.
• Conduct school-based screening camps to identify and mitigate hearing health issues early. Design and distribute educational materials on safe listening habits.
• Publish articles in local print and social media, on the detrimental effects of recreational noise exposure and hearing conservation strategies.
