In Salem district, Tamil Nadu, over one lakh marginalized rural women work in more than 100 spinning mills, enduring long day and night shifts. The relentless noise from thousands of spinning spindles in these mills leads to hearing impairments. Most of women, being illiterate and unaware of the risks, lack knowledge about preventive measures. This neglect of occupational health puts their well-being at severe risk.
We aim to conduct awareness campaigns to educate workers on the dangers of prolonged noise exposure and ways to protect their hearing. We prepare IEC materials in local languages and pictorial posters display at workplaces to communicate effectively. screening camps for workers to identify risks of hearing loss. We will conduct interface meeting with employers and policymakers to enforce safety measures, regulate noise levels, and conduct routine health checkups. .
By focusing on policy reform health of women workers can be safeguarded.
