Alternate tite:
Hearing alone is not enough – Two ways to more empowerment as a person with a hearing impairment
Description:
To mark World Hearing Day, an exciting event for people with a hearing impairment, their relatives and other interested parties took place on 3 March in cooperation with the Gromke Hearing Center, the Leipzig Vocational Training Center for the Hearing and Speech Impaired (BBW) and the Cochlear Implant Center at Leipzig University Hospital (CIZL).
In a presentation by Sophie Gessner, PhD student at the CIZL and psychologist and research assistant at the University of Jena, the participants learned about self-management strategies for dealing with hearing loss. This was followed by a lively exchange about personal experiences and various support options. In the second presentation, Lissy Rinneberg-Schmidt, an employee at BBW Leipzig, introduced the audience to empowerment services for young people and adults with auditory processing and perception disorders (AVWS). At the end of the event, all participants felt empowered in dealing with their hearing impairment and everyday challenges.
