Title: Revolutionize Hearing-Make Care Accessible for All!
Alternate tite:

Revolutionize hearing – make care accessible for all!

Description:

Today marked a historic moment for the Special Interest Group (SIG) on Deafness of the Cyprus Association of Registered SLPs, as we hosted our first-ever event in Cyprus with more than 100 stakeholders. A diverse, interdisciplinary group—including officials from the Ministries of Education and Health, academics, SLPs, audiologists, ENTs, hearing aid companies, Teachers of the Deaf, Special Educators, and parent associations—joined forces under our motto: “Revolutionize Hearing – Make Care Accessible for All!”

Discussions emphasized key policy changes needed to better support the CI community, children and adults. Experts presented the latest trends in screening and (re)habilitation, alongside groundbreaking research from Cypriot labs. We also proudly published the first-ever event proceedings, featuring all speakers, their CVs, speech titles, and abstracts. The event concluded with over 15 hearing screenings by audiologists and SLPs, reinforcing our commitment to accessible hearing care. This milestone event sets the foundation for future advocacy and collaboration in improving CI services across Cyprus.

Impactful Story:

Maria, a mother of a child with cochlear implants, attended our first-ever Special Interest Group (SIG) on Deafness event in Cyprus on World Hearing Day. Alongside other families, she received expert guidance on Auditory-Verbal Therapy (AVT) and the critical role of the family in enriching the auditory environment of CI children. Through discussions with SLPs, audiologists, and educators, she learned practical strategies to integrate language-rich interactions into daily life. Inspired by the event, Maria feels empowered to support her child’s listening and spoken language journey, reinforcing the message: “Revolutionize Hearing – Make Care Accessible for All!”
