Description:
On March 7, the medical team from the ENT department of Xiangya Hospital delivered a lively and engaging science popularization activity titled “Love and Protect Ears” to second-grade students at Qingshuitang Beichen Primary School in Changsha. Through cartoon animations and interactive Q&A sessions, the team explained the structure and functions of the ear, along with daily ear care tips. They also demonstrated the Heimlich maneuver on-site, teaching children how to perform self-rescue and mutual aid during emergencies such as choking on foreign objects.
Professor Mei Lingyun, Director of the Otology Department at Xiangya Hospital, emphasized that “children’s hearing health is a crucial cornerstone of public health”. By bringing science education to schools, the initiative aims to shift the focus of disease prevention forward, helping children cultivate a health awareness centered on “early prevention, early detection, and early treatment”.

On March 3rd, the “National Ear Day” activity organized was held in the studio of Hunan Education Television Station. Mei Lingyun, director of OtolaryngologyDepartment at Xiangya Hospital, gave a science lecture on “Pay attention to ear health”, focusing on the full life cycle management of ear health, paying attention to the hearing health of the elderly. The on-site event set up the award-winning competition and answer of the ear protection health knowledge,distributed more than 500 copies of promotional materials, and carried out online publicity in the form of synchronous live broadcast, with more than 400000 people watching the event online.
