Title: World Hearing Day 2025-Changing Mindsets
Alternate tite:

World Hearing Day 2025 – Changing mindsets

Description:

Public advocacy on hearing health was carried out in Beijing, focusing on age-related hearing loss and noise-induced hearing loss. Educational materials were distributed through both printed booklets and online electronic versions to ensure wide public access.

The WHO Collaborating Centre invited policy-makers, including leaders from the National Health Commission (NHC) and members of the National Technical Group for the Prevention and Treatment of Hearing Loss (NTG-PTHL), to participate in the recording of an advocacy video. The video presented an overview of the national policy on hearing loss prevention and treatment, while emphasizing the importance of primary ear and hearing care under the theme “Ear and Hearing Care Across the Lifetime.”

This initiative aimed to enhance community awareness and strengthen engagement among health officials, supporting the integration of hearing care into national public health strategies.

Primary site: WPR – China

Impactful Story:

Born with congenital deafness, Kang’s life began in silence. At age one and a half, her mother fitted her with hearing aids, but communication remained difficult. After years of failed treatments, they found hope during a Ear Care Day-inspired consultation at Beijing Tongren Hospital. There, doctors suggested China’s first pediatric cochlear implant. Though hesitant, her mother agreed. The surgery succeeded—Kang heard sound for the first time. By age four, she spoke; by 17, she was studying in the U.S. Her journey shows how World Hearing Day activities can change lives through awareness, early intervention, and expert care.
